The England soccer team has been kitted out with smart new suits by Marks and Spencer. The official FA suit has been made to specifications set by England Manager Fabio Capello, who is Italian. Accordingly, the suit is a tad on the spivvy side, overly shiny and the trousers are rather tight around the crotch. Created in collaboration with bespoke tailor Timothy Everest, the suit is cut from 100% wool fabric in a black and white micro birdseye fabric from the Alfred Brown Mill in Leeds.
The England suit has been described as “sculpted to a modern British block with sleeve head roll shoulders for a classic fitting, slim silhouette. Additional styling details include narrower lapels, slanted pockets, four button cuffs and a decadent red puppy tooth check lining. The four-button waistcoat gives added style kudos and maintains the refined look.” Fine, if the desired look is that of a gang about to turn nasty because staff from a rival firm of estate agents have erected a For Sale sign on one of their key properties.
The M&S official FA replica suit “allowing everyone to feel like they can be a part of this exciting experience” is now available from all M&S stores nationwide in two fittings: regular for classic football hooligan proportions and slim fit for a slightly spivvier silhouette. The jacket is priced £120, trousers £79 and waistcoat £35. Pocket squares, fob watches and ties that don’t look like black puddings are not available in this range.
