Description
Subtitled ‘The Life and Loves of Lucy, Lady Houston’, this is the biography of one of the richest women in England in the 1930s, notorious for her fiery criticisms of the government. As a young Fanny Randall she cajoled her way into high society, exploiting the wealth of a succession of high profile lovers. She survived scandal to make major moves as a suffragette, war worker and philanthropist. Despite a comfortable life based on her third husband’s vast fortune, she sought influence in international politics. She also financed the first flight over Mount Everest, backed secret military research and facilitated the development of the Spitfire aircraft. Her reputation soured during the Second World War with her association with Oswald Mosley and her attempts to promote Edward VIII as England’s dictator. This is the first edition, published in 2020 by the History Press and is in immaculate condition.
