Description
Anthony Burgess’s fictional life of Napoleon was written in four movements based on Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony. Burgess dedicated the novel to Stanley Kubrick, who had planned to make a biographical film about Bonaparte and had asked Burgess to write a novel based on the Eroica Symphony to use as a screenplay. But when Burgess sent the first section to Kubrick, the director rejected it as a suitable treatment for a film. Freed from these constraints, Burgess developed the work into an experimental novel. This second printing of the first edition is in very good condition.
