Description
After gaining international fame as Lawrence of Arabia, T.E. Lawrence joined the ranks of the RAF in 1922 under the assumed name of J.H. Ross, despite repeated urgings from Sir Hugh Trenchard, Chief of the Air Staff, to take a commission as an officer. Lawrence was rumbled after a few months and had to be dismissed, so he then joined the Royal Tank Corps, also in the ranks, under the assumed name of T.E. Shaw. This book is an account, partly based on correspondence between Lawrence and Trenchard, of T.E.’s time in the ranks in the gradual build-up to the Second World War, which Lawrence never lived to fight in. This copy is missing the inside flyleaf but is otherwise in good condition.
