Description
The silk scarves worn by Spitfire and Hurricane pilots during the Second World War were usually machine-woven white silk, which protected them from the itchy serge of their RAF uniforms. This, however, is one of the rare (at least still existing) home-made variety, fastidiously knitted by a pilot’s wife or mother. For its age, the scarf is in remarkably good condition, with the hand-twisted tassels all present and correct. The scarf measures 164x21cm.
