This month’s round-up of photographs sent in by readers for the ultimate sartorial assessment.
Jim Wells

“Submitted for your consideration,” writes Jim Wells, “are these photos from the 2024 Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride in Austin, Texas. Tweed was a poor choice for the famously warm Texas weather, but the only sensible option for a motorcycling excursion. Do forgive the garish orange tie. It was a deliberate attempt to embrace the spirit of the event.”
Sir, judging by the outfit worn by your companion, the ‘spirit of the event’ was to wear as many shades of beige as possible, and to ensure that none of your clothes fitted properly. You sir, however, with your Donegal Tweed suit that more or less fits, have managed to elevate the sartorial standards of this leg of the event. And well done for using the classic oneupmanship tactic of posing next to a man with vastly inferior raiment, thus shining a spotlight on yours.
Guy Walters

“The other day, quite unwittingly,” writes Guy Walters, “I found myself paying homage to the excellent Lord Fairhaven, as featured in your pages in September.”
Sir, you are presumably referring to a feature on our web site only viewable to Founders’ Club members, about the last owner of Anglesey Abbey, Urban Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896–1966), whose vast wardrobe is the subject of an exhibition at his former home. Lordy (as his staff called him) would no doubt be rolling in his grave with frustration that he had not lived to meet his soul mate.

Rumble Pants

“Vice Presidents’ Day and my annual opportunity to dress like an Italian ice cream salesman,” writes a man whose name is presumably not Rumble Pants.
A 99 cornet and a couple of Magnums, please, sir.
Yianni Papas

“Tis I here,” writes Yianni Papas, “all fezzed up for full smoking satisfaction, having just returned rather louchely to my abode from a very grand Gala Dinner at the RAF Club, raising funds for restoring RB396 to full flight status.”
Splendid, sir. We can only hope, or indeed surmise, that you attended said gala dinner dressed exactly like this.
