The fact that Alan Bennett penned the foreword to this collection of anecdotes by Deborah, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire and the youngest of the Mitford sisters, says more about Bennett than it does about Debo. Fawning foreword aside, the collection includes a handy list of Debo’s late husband’s, the 11th Duke of Devonshire, many, many official titles, which include ‘Runner-up in White’s Club Shit of the Year, 1974’. The other pieces recall the life of a duchess, from coming-out parties in 1938 to witnessing the inauguration of John F. Kennedy. This first edition is in very good condition.
