Description
Some Tootal cravats come to us, many decades after manufacture, without the pleats in the neck band. Why is this? People ask, wondering whether there was a tier of cravat grades as there were with ties. This is, in fact, not the case, as all Tootal Cravats fall within the same band of quality. It was simply a fashion choice during the fifties and sixties, where some chaps preferred the looser fit of an unpleated neckline, and unstitched (or had a lady in the village do so) all the pleats, so that the cravat could be flung more devil-may-care around the neck. The previous owner of this one was such an individualist that he even had the Tootal label removed, though there is no mistaking that bold paisley design.
