There was a time, before The Chap came along in 1999, when the only reliable place to seek advice on the gentlemanly life was Debretts, who decided in 2009 to accompany their long-running Debretts Peerage with this Guide for the Modern Gentleman. The retro design style and occasionally sardonic tone suggests that Debretts had taken a good look at the pages of early Chap editions. However, since we never published a comprehensive guide to every aspect of a gentleman’s life, this would be the next best thing.
