Goldeneye

£20.00

Subtitled ‘The story of Ian Fleming in Jamaica and the creation of a British national icon’, Goldeneye is the story of a the house Fleming had built on the north coast of Jamaica, where the author lived for two months every year, writing all of the James Bond novels there. When he arrived, Jamaica was an imperial backwater, providing Fleming with the ideal blend of old-fashioned British values and the sensual flavour, charged with the dangerous and erotic, of the island. The spirit of Jamaica influenced the writing of many of his thrillers, starting with Casino Royale. When Dr No was filmed, the crew camped out at Goldeneye for the filming, much of it on Fleming’s private beach below his house. The book also acts as a biography of Fleming, and his romantic ups and downs amid the dramatic changes taking place as Jamaica achieved independence in 1962, the same year as The Spy Who Loved Me. This hardback first edition was published in 2014 by Hutchinson and is in excellent condition.
