Chappish character Baron Corvo, nee Frederick Rolfe, has been featured within our pages many times. This posthumously published account of his final years in Venice lifts the lid on his truly debauched life, which he kept well hidden while attempting to be taken seriously as a man of the cloth. However, once the Catholic Church finally rejected him, Rolfe decided to publish and be damned, recounting his encounters with young male gondoliers with relish and literary flair.
