Description
Son of an Ashton-Under-Hill smallholder and husband to a Land Girl, Fred Archer became popular in the mid 20th century for his books on country life. This volume, published in 1967, was described by Fred himself thus: “These are events, experiences I shared with the village folk; tales told me by people working on the land… I shall never forget their optimism, their serenity.” This was Fred Archer’s first book of life in Ashton-under-Hill, Gloucestershire between 1876 and 1939, with chapters on local farming folk, water divining and village cricket. This is the first edition in good condition signed by the author.
