Description
Published in 1983 as a companion piece to the hugely popular Sloane Ranger’s Handbook, authors Ann Barr and Peter York expanded the satirical take on the upper classes by providing a definitive guide to the Sloane year. But while the tone of the Handbook was gently mocking yet also reverent, the Diary takes a slightly more waspish tone, portraying the Sloane Ranger as a bit of an uncultured buffoon, staggering through a calendar of social events, from the Covering Season in January, through Eights Week in May, Henley Regatta in June/July, banquets in the City of London, the Glorious Twelfth and so on. The photographs, apart from those of Princess Diana, reinforce the unflattering picture of a Sloane Ranger. They probably all owned a copy and thought it was hilarious. This copy is the first edition and is in very good condition.
