Yellow Tootal Cravat

Some Tootal cravats come to us, many decades after manufacture, without the pleats in the neck band. Why is this? People ask, wondering whether there was a tier of cravat grades as there were with ties. This is, in fact, not the case, as all Tootal Cravats fall within the same band of quality. It was simply a fashion choice during the fifties and sixties, where some chaps preferred the looser fit of an unpleated neckline, and unstitched (or had a lady in the village do so) all the pleats, so that the cravat could be flung more devil-may-care around the neck.
