The current school motto for Caterham Public School is ‘Veritas Sine Timore’ – truth without fear. The terrible truth about modern school blazers is that they are often made from pure Polyester, but this one, made during a more refined age by Hornes of London, is not only 100 per cent wool, with yellow silk grosgrain trim, but it is also fully tailored. Hornes of London were known for the tweed jackets first adopted by the royal family in the early 20th century, so they would have been the right choice of outfitter for a young blade in search a tailored blazer. The badge bears the school’s erstwhile motto, ‘Omnia Vinces Perseverando’ (perseverance conquers all). The measurements, equivalent to an adult size 36, are 48cm from armpit to armpit, 45cm from shoulder to shoulder, 78cm back length and 63cm sleeve length.
