Description
While not technically a book, this collection of Player’s Cigarette Cards from 1932 almost qualifies as literature, certainly from a chap’s perspective. All the old favourites are here, from Beau Brummell to Whistler to Count D’Orsay to Lord Byron, with a few surprises in the form of Julius Caesar and Narcissus. Artist Christopher Clark was careful to be historically accurate, except when it came to Disraeli. Big Ben features in the background, yet, as the back of the card informs, ‘Dizzy’ is portrayed as aged 22, dating it at 1826. Big Ben wasn’t built until thirty years later! The set of cards is complete and in very good condition.
