Lord Rochester’s Monkey

£10.00

Graham Greene’s illustrated biography of Lord Rochester was clearly a labour of love, this 17th century libertine in the court of Charles II proving an endlessly fascinating character for the writer. The most notorious of the Restoration rakes was also a fine lyrical and satirical poet, whose talent, Greene opines, was overshadowed by Rochester’s life of lechery and drunkenness, wild pranks and practical jokes. As his friend Etherege said of him: “I know he is a Devil, but he has something of the angel yet undefac’d in him.” This fully illustrated large format hardback is in very good condition.
