Description
First edition, published in 1973, of Graham Greene’s novel set in a provincial Argentinian town, where a brutal dictatorship is shaken by sporadic and inefficient revolutionary activity. A cast of expat characters includes Charley Fortnum, the titular Consul, aged 61 and sustained by drink, who marries an escapee from the local brothel; Dr Eduardo Plarr, whose father has vanished into a Paraguayan prison; and Father Rivas, the revolutionary priest. This first edition is in very good condition.
