Victorian Agate Paperweight

Before the current era of every single important thing being housed in a Smartphone, one had to find a way of preventing the wind from whisking away all the vitally important papers on one’s desk. The less urgent ones, such as bills from one’s tailor and perfumer, could be impaled on a metal spike, but the more pressing ones, such as love letters ransom notes, were more crisply maintained under a paperweight. This one from the Victorian age, dating from approximately 1880, is made from Botswanan agate and measures 4.5 x 3.5 inches, with a beautiful design that wraps its way around the entire paperweight.
