Description
Although not official RAF issue, white knitted silk scarves such as this may as well have been, since every fighter pilot who scrambled into a Spitfire wore one in the cockpit. The volume of cloth provided warmth at freezing altitudes, while the softness of the knitted silk prevented chafing from the itchy serge of the RAF uniform, allowing the pilot to give his full concentration to knocking Messerschmidts out of the sky. This one from the 1930s/40s is in very good condition for its age, even the silk tassels.
