Description
Tootal did wonderful things with rayon, a synthetic fabric patented in 1894 by British inventors Charles Cross, Edward Bevan and Clayton Beadle, who discovered a practical method of making artificial silk that came to be known as viscose rayon. By the 1960s Tootal had refined the production of rayon so it resembled silk satin, with a soft, comfortable lustre that could rest comfortably directly on the neck, as a cravat is traditionally worn. This particularly fine paisley example has no pleating on the neckline, meaning that part has to be folded in half to wear inside the shirt.
