Graham Swift’s masterpiece about life, death and drinking won the Booker Prize in 1996 and was made into an excellent film in 2001 with Michael Caine, Tom Courtney and Bob Hoskins. The tale follows the trail of four ageing men to take the ashes of their departed friend to be scattered in the sea at Margate. Their journey recalls nearly 50 years of their history together in post-war London. Through their eyes we gradually receive an image of the departed Jack Dodds; butcher, soldier, husband, failed father, each narrator with a different take on his relationship with Jack. This is the first edition in very good condition.
