Description
Francis Brett Young was a best-selling novelist of the early 20th century, selling as many books in his day as Somerset Maugham. His wife Jessica’s biography of her husband is based primarily upon his very readable letters and upon her own memories. Francis Brett Young’s friends included many of the most famous literary names of the day, including D. H. Lawrence, and Mrs Brett Young includes letters and comments from Hugh Walpole, Edward Marsh, C. P. Snow and St John Ervine, among others. The less literary aspects of his life covered are Brett Young’s part in the German East African campaign with General Smuts, and his later great drive across Africa. This is the first edition in good condition, with an inscription on the flyleaf by the author.
