Aged 19, Paddy set off from London armed only with a light knapsack and a few letters of introduction to obscure aristocrats in far-flung parts of the former Austro-Hungarian empire. In his wake he left a few broken hearts and happy memories, having the natural charm to be invited to stay at various country houses and chateaux along the way. He also recounts his rather chilling encounters with the early adopters of Nazism in Germany and Austria, which he went on to fight against as an officer in the British Army. This edition is in immaculate condition with the original slip case.
