Description
The biography of Terry-Thomas by Graham McCann, published in 2008, finally lifting the lid on the great bounder’s life and work. Until then, we only had Terry’s word for it, in two autobiographies published at the height of his fame. Bounder! takes us back to his early days attempting to be a clerk (like his father) in Smithfield, before being whisked off to War and frequent spots on the ENSA stage. This led to a fruitful career in television at the BBC, until he was given bigger roles in Ealing Comedies and then Hollywood blockbusters such as Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines. All this funded a lavish lifestyle, and T-T build himself an expat eyrie on the Mediterranean island of Ibiza, where he held court to a constant stream of visitors from British and American film royalty. The Parkinson’s Disease years and poor old Terry’s rapid deterioration, both physical and financial, are all chronicled here, along with the campaign, led by the Daily Mirror, to raise funds for the actor to live out the rest of his days in comparative comfort.
This is the first edition in very good condition.
