Description
Munrospun was established in 1880 as Munro and Company by William Munro to manufacture homespun tweeds, Shetland knitwear and fancy hosiery. The world-famous Argyle Sock was originated by Munrospun in 1895. The firm also pioneered knitted outerwear for women, using the finest woollen yarns, and Cashmere was first introduced by them in 1902. Around 1930 Munrospun began to produce ties, like this one from the 1950s in a burgundy and green fleck/striped design, woven in a soft wool that almost resembles Terylene. The second tie is in mustard yellow with a barely visible bald patch to the rear, entirely obscured by the knot when worn. Both ties measure 125x9cm.
