Description
The Madras pattern originated in the city of Chennai in south India, a city formerly named Madras. Based on Scottish tartan patterns, the colours were both completely made-up and also somewhat bolder and brighter than the more common tartans. The Madras tie caught on the 1940s and 50s and gives a certain authentic elan to, for example, a pin-striped double-breasted suit from that era. This one, measuring 120x8cm, was made by British company Grenville in pure wool.
