Description
Melvyn Bragg’s biography of hellraising acting legend Richard Burton was published in 1998 but is yet to be bettered. Bragg had access, via Burton’s widow Sally, to 350,000 words from Richard’s notebooks and journals. From these, Bragg weaves the story of Burton’s upbringing as the twelfth child of an alcoholic miner, and his rise to success as one of the great actors of the twentieth century. As well as the famous tales of his tumultuous marriage to Elizabeth Taylor and his legendary boozing, less documented scenes emerge of Burton’s encounters with Dylan Thomas, Henry Kissinger, the Windsors, Humphrey Bogart, Marlon Brando and Laurence Olivier. This 500-page hardback first edition features many photographs and is in very good condition.
