The rather Chappishly named Susan Tweedsmuir was the author of several historical novels set in the Victorian era, including Cousin Harriet, Dashbury Park and A Stone in the Pool. This was her true account of living through the Edwardian era, published in 1966, when the days of bonnets and bustles was but a distant memory. Not so for Mrs Tweedsmuir, however, who recalls with bright detail her shopping trips, visits to dowager aunts, trips to the theatre to see Oscar Wilde plays and the Edwardian lady’s typical book collection. This is the first edition with signs of its erstwhile use as a library book.
