Description
Anthony Burgess’ 7th novel was set in Brunei, which he renamed Naraka, Malayo-Arabic for hell. Little invention was needed to contrive a large cast of unbelievable characters and a number of interwoven plots. Though completed in 1958, Devil of a State was not published until 1961, when it was made a choice of the book society. This is the first Book Society edition, published in the same year as the Heinemann edition, and is in fair condition.
