Horrockses was a high street clothing brand launched by ancient cotton mill Horrocks in 1946. The floral print cotton dresses, all made with the high-quality Horrocks fabric, quickly became a hit with the public, during a postwar period when decent clothing was hard to come by. Once Queen Elizabeth started wearing them on her Commonwealth tours, there was no turning back and the brand went on to become a leading Mayfair fashion brand, taking its cue from Parisian couture but maintaining affordable prices. This is the illustrated history of the brand, with essays by leading fashion historians and photographs from the Horrocks archives, many of which feature in an accompanying exhibition in Preston, Lancashire, where the brand was founded.
