Memoirs of Giacomo Casanova

£45.00

Published in 1922 in a limited edition of 1,000 and notable for the translation by cult folk horror writer Arthur Machen, this is the tenth volume of twelve, published by the Casanova Society. The memoirs of the legendary lover contain much as one would expect – anecdotes about his voluminous conquests during his travels around Europe. This volume concerns his travels through Germany, Switzerland and Russia, and the amorous conquests he achieves along the way. “I spent an hour with a girl named Kennedy, a fair Irishwoman, who could speak a sort of French, and behaved most extravagantly under the influence of champagne.” Casanova’s other adventures herein include mingling with various aristocratic and low-life ne-er-do-wells, the Machen translation capturing the brio and energy of this formidable Italian rogue. The condition of this volume is very good for its age, with cut pages all intact and all pull-out maps and plates in immaculate condition.
