Description
Published by John Murray in 1958, Mani is one of Patrick Leigh Fermor’s highly engaging and wildly readable travel journals, this particular edition with a frontispiece by John Craxton, Fermor’s artist friend who is featured in CHAP Winter 23. The Mani is cut off from the rest of Greece by the towering range of the Taygetus Mountains, hemmed in by the Aegian and Ionian Seas. This rocky central prong of the Peloponnese is the southernmost point of Mediterranean Europe, and Leigh Fermor brings every craggy rock, twinkly-eyed old lady and cobbled street to life with his vivid, passionate prose. This hardback copy is in very good condition.
