Sayers for eleven detective novels and several collections of short detective stories. This, the fifth novel featuring the gentleman detective, was published in 1930 and opens with mystery author Harriet Vane on trial for the murder of her former lover, Phillip Boyes. While investigating the crime and trying to prove Vane’s innocence, Lord Peter Bredon Wimsey falls in love with the accused, bringing about a complexity to the plot and the emotions of the protagonist that make this one of the most compelling in the Wimsey series. This New English Library paperback edition was published in 1968 and is in very good condition.
