Description
The surprising publishing sensation of 1982 was a satirical guide to being a Sloane Ranger, the brainchild of Ann Barr and Peter York, the features editor and a writer for London’s Harpers & Queens magazine. For several years they and their colleagues had been documenting a new breed of upper-middle class Londoner they dubbed the Sloane Ranger. When the book was first published, its readers were Sloanes themselves, but hot on their Gucci heels came the imitators and thus a whole tribe was born, enormously helped by the book’s cover star Princess Diana, the Sloane Ranger’s role model who had married the Prince of Wales only one year before the book came out. Full of pithy caricatures, the Sloane Ranger Handbook combines informed commentary with gently mocking critiques of the archetypes that compose this now largely defunct social tribe. This copy is in good condition.
