Will The Real Ian Carmichael…

£20.00

The autobiography of actor Ian Carmichael, forever associated in the minds of Chaps with the roles of Bertie Wooster, Lord Peter Whimsey and the straight foil to Terry-Thomas’s caddish character in School for Scoundrels. After training at RADA, Carmichael’s career began, briefly interrupted by the Second World War during which he served in the 22nd Dragoons, on the stage in comedy revues, the highlight of which was apparently a sketch called ‘Undressing on the Beach’, which he claims you “had to have been there to fully appreciate”. Wider audiences perhaps didn’t fully appreciate Carmichael’s talents until the Boulting Brother’s cast him in a series of hugely successful film comedies, beginning with Private’s Progress in 1956. This first edition was published in 1971.
