Born in 1848, Richard Jefferies was an English nature writer known for his beautiful depictions of rural England in both fiction and non-fiction. He inspired the likes of J. S. Fletcher and Henry Williamson, with other writers who admired his works including Leslie Paul, Henry Miller, Jeff VanderMeer and David Garnett. This final collection of his essays was edited posthumously by the author’s widow, and includes essays on country places, the July glass, the countryside of Sussex, Buckhurst Park, walks in the wheat fields and cottage ideas. This first edition was published in 1891 and is in very good condition.
