Description
A beautifully maintained original Edwardian frock coat, made by a German or Austrian tailor named Gottlieb Weller. All the elements are in perfect condition, from the silk lapel facings to the silk lining to the satin striped sleeve linings. The frock coat is approximately a size 40, measuring:
Armpit to armpit: 48.5cm/19 inches
Waist: 19 inches
Neck to nape: 104cm/41 inches
Shoulder to shoulder (exterior): 17 inches
Outside sleeve: 24.5 inches
There is one inside breast pocket and two hidden pockets in the tails – reputedly to insert a pair of ladies’ high heeled shoes when walking through fields at night, in pursuit of country revelry. All the original covered buttons are still intact, making this a remarkably maintained coat for its age.
