Description
Delightful early hardback edition of AA Milne’s children’s classic, the twentieth edition published by Methuen in 1945. It is dedicated in fountain pen on the endpapers ‘To Hilary, Xmas 1945′. Originally published in 1928, The House at Pooh Corner was the second instalment of the Winnie the Pooh series and the first to feature the character of Tigger. Illustrations by E.H. Shepard, whom Milne insisted received a share of the royalties, once he realised how much the illustrations contributed to the books’ success. Winnie the Pooh was modelled on a toy bear owned by Milne’s son Christopher Robin, though Shepard eventually grew to resent ‘that silly old bear’, feeling it overshadowed his more serious illustration work. This edition is in very good condition for its age.
